Man killed in Magna after officer-involved shooting

UPDATE: The man who was killed has been identified as Lonnie Marcel Bowen, 41, of Salt Lake City, according to Unified Police.

(KUTV) — A man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Magna on Tuesday morning.

The intersection at 8400 West, 2700 South was closed as a result.

The ordeal began shortly after 4 a.m. when an individual called police to report a hostage situation. Dispatchers attempted to locate that person.

Not long thereafter, the suspect called police and said they were going to hurt a person in the car with them.

West Valley Police located the suspect, who was in Millcreek. At this point the suspect fled, causing a police chase.

The chase ended in Magna, where a Unified Police officer came to the area to help. At some point, shots were fired.

A man died on the scene, and a woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police have not disclosed whether or not a weapon was recovered from the vehicle.
