(KUTV) - An early morning fire in an abandoned Salt Lake City home has fire investigators searching for answers.
The fire happened around 7 a.m. this morning at 148 South 500 East.
“The suspicion is that it’s caused by vagrants but until they complete their investigation we can’t say that definitively," Captain Dan Marlowe of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
Fire crews believe vagrants may have been living in the abandoned home.
“The suspicion is that it’s caused by vagrants but until they complete their investigation we can’t say that definitively," Marlowe says.
Marlowe says this type of fire is common around this time of year.
“The most common cause of holiday season fires that we see is candles, straight up candles, people light a candle, forget they lit it, go out for the night," said Marlowe.
