Thomas Wright, who was the chairman of the Utah Republican Party from 2011 to 2013, is officially running for governor.

Wright posted the announcement on Twitter Thursday after declaring his intent to gather signatures to get on the ballot.

"I am running for governor," Wright tweeted.

Utah is my home. I was raised here, went to school here, have built my business and raise my family here. I love this state - Utah's future is important and it matters to me.

Besides owning and running Summit Sotheby's International Realty, Wright is a member of the Republican National Committee (RNC), is the co-chairman of the Utah Debate Commission and serves on the Utah Opera / Utah Symphony Board of Trustees, according to his bio on the organization's website.

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, Salt Lake County Councilwoman Aimee Winder Newton and entrepreneur Jeff Burningham also declared an intent to gather signatures for the governor's race Thursday.

The Utah Debate Commission released the following statement subsequent to Wright's announcement:

Thomas Wright's entry into the Utah gubernatorial contest necessitates his resignation from the Utah Debate Commission.
The executive committee will meet in the coming days to determine a new co-chair.
Wright has been a remarkable co-chair for the UTDC and we are grateful for his service and leadership on our board.
