A family of four in Roy were found dead after police say the dad, Russell Smith, killed his wife Shawna and their two kids, 6-year-old Tylee and 2-year-old Blake then himself.

Neighbor Max E. Richins said the Smith family was quiet, kind but loving to their kids.

"I've seen lots of death in my day but but nothing like this has ever happened right on my neighbor like that," Richins said.

Roy Police say the incident occurred Sunday between 1 and 10 p.m. at 2106 W. 4750 South.

So far police don't suspect anyone else was involved but they are still trying to find a motive for the violent act.

Lt. Kevin Smith with the Roy City Police Department said they received the call from a family member who went by the house and saw what they thought was a scene of assault.

When police arrived to the home they found the family dead, all shot, the father with a possible self inflicted gunshot wound.

"This is a very quiet family, there's no indication that they've ever fought before," Smith said, "Just kind of kept to themselves."

Smith said they don't believe intoxication or prior issues were the driving force behind this incident and the family had no priors or history of violence or mental health.
