SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Some Utah poll workers are still waiting on their paychecks, nearly one month after the election.
“There have been a continuous series of ‘Ohhh, we’ll take care of it next weekend. Ohhh, we’ll take care of it next week,’” said Al Sacharov of Salt Lake City.
Sacharov said he’s worked several elections for Salt Lake County, and he thinks he should’ve already been paid the $350 for the full day plus training and setup.
God’s holy trousers!” Sacharov said. “We’re already into the 2024 campaign. Let’s wrap up the business from this time.”
Officials from Utah’s two largest counties say four weeks is typical for processing the one-time payment for so many temporary workers.
On top of that, a record number of poll workers — more than 700 — helped with the record turnout in Salt Lake County.
We have overwhelmed the system because we’ve doubled the amount of poll workers,” said Lannie Chapman, chief deputy clerk.
That’s resulted in plenty of paperwork, Chapman said. Even so, she said the checks should be mailed from the county’s payroll department this week.
“We sincerely apologize,” she said, “and we appreciate their patience. All of their documentation is in and should be taken care of.”
The Utah County Clerk’s office said about 90% of poll workers were paid last week, and the rest will be paid this week.
