Hospital workers fundraise to buy car for coworker who biked 37 miles to work

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — St. Mark's Hospital is congratulating a very special employee of the month by fundraising to buy him a car.

Michael Piper was celebrated by his fellow employees on Friday.

His managers said he relies on public transportation to get to work, but when buses weren't running on New Year's Day, he didn't call in sick or ask for help.

Instead, he rode his bike 37 miles from Layton to the hospital to get to work. Piper said it took him nearly four hours to make the trek.
