A deadly house fire kills 21-year-old Kearns man just days before Christmas
(KUTV) - A deadly house fire takes the life of a 21-year-old man just days before Christmas. It happened just after two o’clock in the morning near 3500 West and 5055 South in Kearns.
According to the owner of the home who spoke to 2News, the victim, Michael Dunn, lived alone and had been renting the home for about 14 months.
She says his parents just flew into town from back east to spend Christmas with him and were at a hotel when the fire broke out.
“He was a beautiful young man with great potential. He comes from a loving family that love him more than anything,” said the landlord who didn’t want to be identified.
Unified Fire Investigators say they are still trying to determine the cause but sources tell 2News they believe a candle was left burning in a back room.
Dunn was found in the front living room when firefighters pulled him from the home and tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.
“I wouldn’t wish this on anyone,” said Skyler Rich, who lives right next door. He says he and his wife had to be evacuated when the fire broke out because firefighters were concern their home might go up in flames.
"It was really scary. We grabbed everything that we could think of we might need if we had to spend the night somewhere else,” said Rich.
