Husband now facing charges in Utah child abuse case of starving boy

(KUTV) Russel Jaynes, husband of Brandy Jaynes, the Toquerville woman accused of locking her son in a bathroom and starving him, is now facing child abuse charges.

According to court documents, 40-year-old Russel Jaynes faces one count of child abuse, a third degree felony.

The Associated Press reports that court records show the man filed for divorce about three weeks after his wife was charged.

The charge is defined in that, "the defendant recklessly inflicted upon a child serious physical injury or, having the care or custody of such child, recklessly caused or permitted another to inflict serious physical injury upon said child."

The boy was found Sunday, Jan. 8, by his father.

Brandy Jaynes is accused of locking a 12-year-old boy in the basement and starving him for two years. When police took the boy to the hospital they found he only weighed 30 pounds.

Tomorrow, Brandy Jaynes will face a bail hearing, according to Washington County Attorney's Office.
