Latter-day Saint missionary dies in West Africa's Cote d'Ivoire

(KUTV) — A missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints passed away in Cote d'Ivoire, Africa on Thursday, the Church confirmed.

Elder Spencer Owusu was 24 and serving in the Cote d'Ivoire Abidjan West Mission, Daniel Woodruff, a Church spokesperson, said in a statement.

Owusu had reported not feeling well and was taken to an emergency room, Woodruff said, though the exact cause of his death was still unknown on Friday.

Owusu was from Ghana and had been serving as a missionary since September.

"We sincerely pray for his parents and loved ones as they mourn his passing and remember his life and service," the Church said in a statement.
