LDS missionary dies while serving in Portugal

    A missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints died while serving in Portugal, according to a statement released by The Church.

    Elder Joao Victor Rodrigues Gondim, 20, collapsed during a soccer game on Monday. He died shortly after.

    The cause of his death is unknown.

    Gondim served as a missionary since July of 2017 and is from Sao Pualo, Brazil.

    The Church says its working to provide counseling for the missionaries who witnessed the tragedy.

    "Our hearts go out to his family as they mourn his passing. We pray they will feel peace and support during this difficult time," the statement read."
