Majority of Utah voters approve of Pence as VP choice, poll finds
(KUTV) Donald Trump’s running mate has the approval of more than half of Utahns, according to a new poll.
The poll, conducted by Dan Jones & Associated for UtahPolicy.com, shows 56 percent of voters in Utah either strongly or somewhat approve of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as the vice presidential nominee.
A quarter of those polled did not approve of Pence, and 19 percent were undecided, the poll showed.
The margin of error is 3.34 percent.
The poll also found 77 percent of Republicans in Utah approved of the Pence choice. Pence’s appeal to that group was illustrated last week when Gov. Gary Herbert endorsed Trump for president. While offering no specific praise for Trump, Herbert did mention Pence specifically, calling him a "great individual" who "adds a lot to the Trump ticket."
Trump holds a 12-point lead over Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in a recent poll, but he has struggled to gain widespread support in the Beehive state.
