Man arrested after SWAT standoff in Taylorsville

(KUTV) — Franklin Asifoa, 46, was arrested around 6:30 Monday night after he allegedly fired off 2 rounds inside a Taylorsville home during a domestic dispute.

Police say Asifoa had an argument with someone in the house at 4 p.m., then left the home and returned with a gun.

Authorities were called to the scene and as they approached the house. They backed off and called a SWAT team after hearing 2 shots fired inside. There were 2 people inside the home at the time.

Unified Police also called in their hostage negotiators to help defuse the situation.

After 2 hours of negotiation, a woman exited the house and said that Asifoa would come out peacefully if he was able to get mental health care. A few minutes later he exited the home and was arrested without incident.

Asifoa was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, and faces charges of Aggravated Assault, discharging a firearm, and criminal mischief.
