(KUTV) One man is in critical condition after suffering second- and third-degree burns over 95 percent of his body late Tuesday night.

Officials said witnesses to a Murray car fire called 911 at about 11 p.m. Tuesday night.

Murray Fire and the United Fire Authority both responded to the area of 6300 South and 1300 East after hearing an explosion. They saw a car on fire with a person inside. Other witnesses reported seeing a man run out of the car, still on fire.

The man ran to first responders when they arrived and was rushed via ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center.

He was later flown to the burn unit at University of Utah Hospital. Harris said he had second- and third-degree burns over 95 percent of his body. He is in critical condition.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
