Man in Jazz Bear costume of the last 25 years parts ways with Utah Jazz
(KUTV) -- Utah Jazz management assured its fans Friday that they can still rely on seeing the Jazz Bear at the season opener despite reports the award-winning mascot's employment has been terminated.
No confirmation of termination was issued but Frank Zang of the Utah Jazz organization issued the following statement:
Jazz Bear will continue to be one of the most iconic mascots in the NBA. Out of respect for his character, which is separate from any employee ever associated with it, we have never discussed his identity. We do not discuss individual personnel matters.
When the Jazz Bear first debuted by rappelling down from a catwalk high above the court, audiences instantly fell in love. He's been a main staple since 1994 for the NBA team.
