KAMAS (KUTV) -- A man was found safe after getting buried in a small avalanche near Kamas thanks to his friend's knowledge on avalanche safety on Saturday.

A man was dug out from a small avalanche up in Woodland near Kamas without injuries after his friend found him with the use of a beacon and radio to locate him underneath a thick blanket of snow.

According to a Facebook post from the Utah Avalanche Center, two men went out to ride snow bikes through the hills in the area.

When one of men decided to go up higher, he realized that his friend disappeared in the avalanche that followed, burying him.

"I was leading and a little higher and made it through when I looked back the snow and Rob were gone! We flew back to find him! I launched my bike up into the avalanche where I saw a hand sticking out of the snow," wrote the man on Facebook. "It was Rob!!"

Using the beacon and radio the duo brought, the man dug his friend out of the snow and rescued him. The buried man was not injured.

"I wasn’t going to post this because I really didn’t want my wife to know. But if I can spread awareness and talk even one person into getting a beacon then it’s worth it," the man wrote.
