(KUTV) -- More than 100 bikers gathered at Liberty Park Saturday to celebrate the life of 23-year-old Cameron Hooyer.

Hooyer, an avid biker, was killed during a weekly ride through Salt Lake City late Thursday night.

Hooyer’s parents attended the emotional event.

"We're missing our son, greatly. And we're very touched this community has come out to honor him and honor his memory,” said Cameron’s dad, Mark Hooyer.

Cameron’s family remembered him as a generous young man and a passionate cyclist. They said he was very active in helping the less fortunate in Africa.

Those in the biking community are using this tragedy as a platform to practice cycling safety.

“Always have a buddy, always have someone watching with you,” said the coordinator of Saturday’s event.

Cameron will be remembered as a loving person and cautious cyclist, his parents said.
