A 2-year-old child was flown to the hospital, while another child, along with their mother, was also hospitalized after being hit by a car while walking inside the Layton Christian Academy parking lot.

According to Chris Crowder with the school, the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. at 2352 UT-193 in Layton.

Crowder said that a mother and her children were walking in the parking lot when an adult female driver, blinded by the sun, struck them.

"The car struck them and pinned them under the car," said Lt. Travis Lyman with Layton police.

According to Lyman, witnesses nearby and the driver assisted in lifting the car to pull the mother and her children from underneath.

The 2-year-old was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital, while the mother and a 3-year-old was transported via ambulance.

The mother and 2-year-old were reported to be in serious condition, while the 3-year-old only suffered minor injuries.

Lyman said the driver was cooperating with the investigation, and no impairment or distractions were suspected.

Crowder described the incident as a "tragic accident" and added, "Our prayers are with both the driver, the mother, and the little ones."
