SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Nearly 100 people have active cards to participate in Utah's limited medical marijuana program that allows residents with severe epilepsy to travel to other states to purchase a cannabis extract oil and use it back home.
State officials say they don't know why fewer than half the people in the program renew the cards each year.
The Deseret News reports state officials are hoping to find out more once the University of Utah completes a study about the experiences of those in the program. That study is expected to be complete in 2018.
The 24-year-old Ashley Rice is among the card holders who renewed. The West Jordan woman says the number of seizures she experiences has decreased since using the cannabis oil.
