Neighbors rescue more than 60 horses from Pole Creek, Bald Mountain flames
(KUTV) — More than 60 horses are safe from the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires, thanks to the quick actions of neighbors.
It was Thursday when Mary Ann Ford heard sirens going off as the fire department explained to her she needed to evacuate. She owns Oak Hills Stables in Salem, a popular place for folks to board horses. The problem now? She had to move 60 of them at a moment’s notice.
Texts started going out around the community about Ford’s situation and soon after, trailers started lining up at the stables. Neighbors were pulling up and phoning, each offering to help.
The horses are now scattered all around the area but most importantly, they are all safe.
Ford and her family are just amazed by how quickly the community responded and stepped up to help them in their time of need.
