New surveillance video in hit and run of skateboarder in SLC
(KUTV) - Salt Lake City Police are hoping new surveillance video will help them track down a hit and run suspect.
The crash happened early in the morning on Super Bowl Sunday, right next to Liberty Park.
It follows two other hit and runs involving skateboarders in Salt Lake City within the last 6 months.
In it, you hear the moment 25-year-old Austin Bryson was hit by a vehicle, described as a silver or white four-door sedan.
He was skateboarding when it happened and says he remembers being thrown into the air before striking the ground.
He also watched the car stop briefly and then drive off.
Bryson was left for dead, screaming in the street.
Neighbors heard his cries and rushed to help.
One of them, Christina Hernandez, tells 2News she remembers holding his head together with her bare hands.
She and her family weren’t sure Bryson would survive.
Bryson suffered a broken leg, back fractures and has 800 stitches in his head.
He has four months of recovery ahead and huge hospital bills after spending about a week in the trauma unit.
If you’d like to help him, a GoFundMe page has been set up.
