Ogden dentist charged with sharing child pornography
(KUTV) – Prosecutors charged an Ogden dentist Tuesday with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after a police investigation allegedly discovered his computer was sharing child pornography online.
Court documents say, Daniel Alston, 72, told investigators he downloaded the child pornography due to “curiosity and the forbidden nature of the material.”
Police records show an undercover investigator connected Alston’s IP address to images of nude underage girls engaging in sex acts.
When the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force followed the IP address it led them to Alston’s home on 40th Street in Ogden.
Last week, police served a search warrant at Alston’s home and claim to have found 10 images of child pornography.
Detectives say Alston admitted to downloading the images.
Alston had a dental practice in Washington Terrace, but he sold the building last year. Alston has an active state license as a dentist. There were no records of disciplinary actions against his license.
Prosecutors asked for a $250,000 bail to be imposed for Alston’s release because he may have access to children at his dental practice. He is currently listed with a $100,000 bail in the Weber County Jail.
Court records also stated that Alston has a home in Mexico and had made plans to move there when he retired.
Alston is scheduled for an initial appearance in an Ogden courtroom Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.
