OGDEN, UTAH — (KUTV)- Ogden Police Department is trying to increase it's incentives to keep talented officers from leaving their team.
This week, the city announced pay increases for certain shifts and other educational incentives being offered too. Overall, Ogden PD says they can't compete with the benefits offered by other departments like Salt Lake and UPD.
In last 2 to 3 years, Ogden PD lost more than 50 officers -- many of them leaving for other jurisdictions.
Dollar for dollar, they just don't have the funds to compete.
Ogden is spending approximately $100,000 to train and equip each officer -- only to see them walk out the door for a better offer.
