Police: Suspect shot by homeowners in Iron County airlifted in 'serious' condition
(KUTV) — A 24-year-old man who kicked the door in on a Cedar City home is in "serious but stable condition" after being shot by the homeowner, police say.
Iron County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a call of a burglary in progress at a home in the area of 4000 South 17800 West in Cedar City on Tuesday. When they arrived, Christian Holbert had already been shot multiple times with a handgun after kicking down the door of two elderly homeowners and being asked to leave.
Homeowners told police they felt threatened by Holbert's behavior, which prompted the shooting. After Holbert was shot, he tried to get up from the ground and "would not listen to the victims," according to an Iron County Sheriff's Office press release.
Holbert was described as being "naked and irrational with the victims while inside the home."
He left the residence and was located nearby, still naked, by Iron County Sheriff's deputies, who said he continued to be "non-compliant." A tazer was deployed on Holbert multiple times, but it had "little to no impact," police said.
Deputies were eventually able to subdue Holbert and he was taken into custody. He was treated on scene and transported by Life Flight Dixie Regional Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.
No charges are being filed against the homeowners at this time, police said in the press release. Holbert has not been charged but "will be facing charges after the investigation is completed."
