WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (KUTV) — West Valley City Police officially identified the two boys who were killed in a shooting near Hunter High School in West Valley City on Thursday.
Paula "Paul" Tahi, 15, and Tivani Lopati, 14, were both students at Hunter High School.
Tahi's first cousin, Sepi Lokotui, was at a gathering at the site of the shooting later Thursday evening. She said she was close to her cousin, and referred to him as "brother."
"It's just unexpected and a shock for our whole family," she said.

Granite School District identified a third victim, Ephraim Asiata, 15, who was injured. He is in stable but critical condition.
"Principal Oaks recently spoke with the Asiata family, and they indicated that he remains in critical condition and the family would appreciate prayers on behalf of their son, nephew, and cousin," according to a statement from the district. "As a school and district community, we also ask that you keep the families of Paul Tahi and Tivani Lopati, in your hearts, thoughts and prayers and that we work to support them in any way we can."
GSD added that crisis counselors will be available all day Friday at Hunter High School and Hunter Junior High for any students who need help and support.
The incident unfolded just west of Hunter High School when two groups got into an altercation.
WVCPD public information officer Roxeanne Vainuku said the groups involved in the fight were made up of students from multiple high schools.
After the shooting, the suspects fled on foot. Three of the boys were apprehended in a nearby neighborhood where a gun was also recovered.
A fourth boy was taken into custody later in the afternoon.
All four suspects are between 14 - 15 years old.
Police said one of the 14-year-old boys, who is believed to be the shooter, has been booked into juvenile detention. The three others were questioned and released.
