(KUTV) — A Washington County man is behind bars after he allegedly raped and assaulted a woman over the weekend.

Gabriel Newland Dutson was arrested Sunday on charges of object rape, rape, aggravated assault and assault with substantial bodily injury, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Police said when the victim went to bed, Dutson changed into the victim's clothes and woke her up. He then allegedly assaulted and injured her.

"The victim described the pain as that it felt like Gabriel Dutson was ripping flesh off of the victim's body," the affidavit stated. Gabriel Dutson informed me that the victim was screaming, so he put his fingers in the victim's mouth and down the victim's throat in attempt to keep the victim from screaming. This caused the victim's airway to be obstructed and caused injury to the victim's throat and mouth."

The victim bit Dutson's hand. He then walked the victim outside and let her go, according to police.

When officers arrived, Dutson was transported to the St. George Regional Hospital. After being cleared, he was booked into the Washington County Jail.

During an interview, officers reported Duston appeared to be "suffering from a mental disorder." He reportedly said that "God told him to do the above actions and was frustrated because he failed."

"Gabriel Dutson also stated that he knew of a way to solve the issue and that he needed to 'shoot' the victim with an arrow," the affidavit states.

Officers requested Dutson be held without bail.
