SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake County elections are recounting ballots a Utah legislative race where an incumbent Republican won re-election by only three votes.
Democrat challenger Suzanne Harrison filed a request for a recount last week after losing by the slim margin to Rep. LaVar Christensen of Draper.
County Elections Director Rozan Mitchell told the Deseret News that the recount should be finished by the end of the day on Monday, Dec. 5.
Christensen was trailing on election night by almost 200 votes, but the race flipped over the next two weeks as election officials finished counting ballots. Election officials announced last week that the final count showed Christensen won by three votes.
He says he's hopeful the recount will confirm his win.
