(KUTV) — An 18-year-old male was killed by an Ogden police detective after a police pursuit in Ogden on Tuesday afternoon.

Ogden police were assisting Woods Cross police in tracking down an armed robbery suspect in a stolen vehicle on Tuesday.

A device was deployed to stop the vehicle and the suspect continued fleeing with a flat tire, Ogden Deputy Police Chief Eric Young said in a press conference.

The vehicle struck two other vehicles and a law enforcement vehicle in the area of 12th Street and Depot Drive before coming to a stop, Young said.

An Ogden officer was commanding the suspect to exit the vehicle when the suspect pointed a gun at the officer, Young said, and the officer shot the 18-year-old.

The male was treated at the scene and transported to McKay-Dee Hospital, where he passed away from his injuries.

12th Street remains closed in all directions between Stewart Drive and 1200 West, Ogden police said in a tweet.

Police asked that the public avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The deceased suspect was wanted in connection with multiple armed robberies in Davis and Weber Counties.

Police could not publicly identify the suspect until his immediate family were made aware of his death.

Young said the deceased suspect was believed to have been present during an armed robbery of a 7-Eleven on 32nd Street and Harrison Blvd. in Ogden on Friday. During that incident, the 7-Eleven clerk was pistol-whipped, Young said.

Per Ogden PD policy, the incident will be investigated by the Weber County Officer Involved Critical Incident investigation team. Also in accordance with policy, the detective who shot the suspect would be placed on paid administrative leave for the duration of the investigation, Young said.

"This is an unfortunate loss of this young man, and we empathize with his family," Young said.

Tuesday's shooting was the second officer-involved shooting by members of the Ogden Police Department in less than a week.

On Friday, officers shot and killed an aggravated kidnapping suspect who fired shots at them.

Ogden officers also fatally shot a fleeing suspect on Nov. 9.

***Editor's note: An earlier version of this story inaccurately reported that the 18-year-old suspect was in the car with other potential suspects at the time of the pursuit.
