Salt Lake City Mayor commits to uphold climate agreement
(KUTV) Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski announced Salt Lake City's continuing commitment to uphold the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement after Trump's withdrawal.
Biskupski, along with mayors of 61 other cities, committed to adopt, honor and uphold all goals associated with the world-wide initiative. Along with Salt Lake City's commitment to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2032 and an 80 percent reduction in green house gas emissions by 2040.
“Salt Lake City is warming at a rate twice the global average, which is already impacting water supplies, worsening air quality, and threatening our $1 billion ski industry,” Mayor Biskupski said. “This unprecedented action by President Trump affects each and every one of us. We must lead where the White House refuses to. Cities are paving the path toward a livable future and I’m proud to count Salt Lake City in that cohort.”
