SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Salt Lake City Mission is in urgent need of more turkeys to help feed Utah's needy this holiday season.
Organization officials said they only have 23 turkeys currently in the freezer when they need hundreds.
“More and more we’re seeing people who have never come to the Mission for help. Many were doing well before COVID-19 disrupted all of our lives, and now because of growing economic struggles preparing for Thanksgiving has been harder than ever”, Pastor Joe Vazquez, Co-Director of Salt Lake City Mission said in a press release. “So our Turkey Drive this year is more important than ever because there is a bigger need in the community for people who just really need that extra bit of hope knowing that people really care.”
They're asking for donations of frozen turkeys weighing 10 to 12 pounds.

Salt Lake City Mission uses the turkeys in food boxes that are given by the hundreds to Utah families who are struggling and could use a little assistance.
"They really need our help right now. They need to know someone cares. So the community can help each of these individuals by providing frozen turkeys and other holiday meal fixings for the traditional holiday celebration” Pastor Joe emphasized.
Salt Lake City Mission’s frozen turkey drive will run for the next several weeks as they prepare to start distributing food boxes on Nov. 19 and into the following week.
If you're interested in donating a turkey, or other Thanksgiving items, you can drop them off at Salt Lake City Mission's main office located at 1151 S. Redwood Road Suite #106.
