(KUTV) - The Salt Lake County Clerk's office received a petition Thursday morning from Better Boundaries with 50,000 signatures.

Sherry Swenson, Salt Lake County Clerk, told 2News her office tweeted the delivery to make the public aware that statewide initiative petitions are circulating and being accepted.

The deadline for petition submission for verification is April 15, 2018, she added.

Justin Lee with the Lieutenant Governor's Office said there six statewide initiatives with a current application in Utah. The initiatives are:

  • Our Schools Now Teacher and Student Success: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure to increase the state income tax and invest the increase in educational performance improvement.
  • Utah Medical Cannabis Act: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure to permit limited numbers of cannabis outlets and allow physicians to prescribe marijuana for certain medical conditions.
  • Better Boundaries: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure to create an independent redistricting commission in Utah.
  • Count My Vote: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure to institute direct primary elections.
  • Utah Decides Healthcare: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure to expand Medicaid.
  • Keep My Voice: This initiative would allow Utahns to vote on a ballot measure

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, these six initiatives are raising more money in donations than incumbents and candidates for the Legislature and state offices — nearly $1.3 million combined.

Each group is required to gather more than 113,000 signatures each to qualify for the ballot. Better Boundaries is still gathering signatures to meet that quota.
