UPDATE: Salt Lake man charged after 375 child porn files found on computer

UPDATE (4/4/18, 1:35 p.m.): The Utah Attorney General has charged Benjamin R. Berrett with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

(KUTV) — On Monday, a 39-year-old man from the Salt Lake area was arrested on 10 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Earlier in the year, according to court documents, on Feb. 18, 2018, Benjamin R. Berrett shared a file with law enforcement over a peer-to-peer network that contained child pornography.

According to court documents, the results of a court order to the internet provider revealed that the suspect lives in the area of Salt Lake.

On April 2, authorities executed a search warrant at Berrett's address.

Berrett admitted to authorities that he used peer-to-peer networks to download child pornography, court documents state. He used a computer located at his home.

The computer was forensically previewed on the scene, which revealed a total of 375 files containing child pornography, court documents state.

Berrett was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, which is a second-degree felony. His bail was set at $100,000.
