Celebrities join in SLC’s LoveLoud Festival
(KUTV) -- Rice Eccles Stadium hosted more than 35,000 people at the second annual LoveLoud Festival Saturday.
“I’m also here to celebrate along with everybody here!” Tegan Quin, musician of the group Tegan and Sara, said. They came out for Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds' event, celebrating the LGBTQ community with music and love.
“I think it’s needed in so many places in the world, not just Utah, Mormonism, religion. So I think the conversation is a lot bigger than just this,” Reynolds said.
Bloggers, TV stars, and singers like America’s Got Talent 2017 winner Grace VanderWaal came to show their support.
“Having everyone gather around for something so important for the future, I think should be important for every young person,” said VanderWaal. They wanted to make sure all of Utah’s young people feel safe and accepted, regardless of their sexual identity.
“LGBTQ suicide is higher here than anywhere else in the country and that’s just not OK,” said Quin.
Reynolds was pleased with the turnout and looked forward to people being able to participate around the world, thanks to the live stream.
“People saying this has given them a safe place. And it’s opened up their family’s eyes,” he said.
