Suspect sentenced for stealing $125K Joseph Smith statue

(KUTV) — One of three suspects was convicted of theft in the 2nd degree for stealing a Joseph Smith and Brigham Young statue from Salt Lake City in May 2017.

The statue weighs 800 pounds and is valued at $125,000. It was stolen from 825 N. 300 W. at 4:00 a.m.

Larry Forness pleaded guilty on Nov. 27, 2017 but was sentenced and committed on March 26, 2018.

The defendant was "sentenced to an indeterminate term of not less than one year, nor more than fifteen years in the Utah State Prison," court documents state.

However, Forness will be given credit for time served since their last booking date of March 3, 2018.
