Last week, 17-yr-old, Isaiah Weaver was charged with criminal homicide and child abuse in connection with the death of Gena Sanchez' baby.

During the investigation, police found that Sanchez was dating Weaver and she knew he was abusing her child.

Sanchez now faces 2 counts of child abuse.

UPDATE: 17-year-old babysitter, Isaiah Weaver, who was charged in the death of baby in West Valley City, will be tried as an adult in court.

(KUTV)- According to police, on Tuesday afternoon West Valley Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of an unconscious child.

Officials responded to the area of 4635 S 2890 W just after 12:00 PM where the child was then transported via medical helicopter to the hospital.

"Despite medical efforts at the scene and by hospital staff, the child did not survive" West Valley Police said in a press release.

The child has been identified as 21-month-old Jaycieion Sanchez who was at home with a sibling and a babysitter.

According to police, officers saw multiple visible injuries that were not consistent with the statements given by the babysitter regarding the cause of the child's death.

The babysitter, a 17-yr-old male, was booked into Salt Lake Valley Detention for child abuse homicide.

KUTV spoke with the mother of the baby 21-month old, Jaycieion Sanchez, “He always followed me everywhere, I will never forget you Jay, I will never forget you,” who said he was a very happy baby.

“There’s always the possibility that the district attorney could make a decision to treat this 17-year-old as an adult in this case,” police said. “I will not rest until you get justice,” Jaycieion’s mother said in an interview with KUTV.

The Sanchez family has set up a Go Fund Me account to help with funeral funds:
