Truck sails off I-215 overpass landing on car, killing one, injuring two
(KUTV) - A major accident has happened at 3500 S 2400 W under the I-215 overpass.
According to the Department of Public Safety, a Toyota Tundra was headed northbound on I-215 West at the 3500 South overpass when it went airborne.
"The Toyota went off of I-215 West at the 3500 South off-ramp and jumped the ramp to I-215 West northbound at 3500 South. The Toyota landed on 3500 South proper and impacted an eastbound GMC Envoy. The male driver of the Toyota pickup sustained fatal injuries and he is still in the process of being identified. The driver and female occupant of the GMC Envoy sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. They are expected to recover," according to a release from DPS.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nathan Croft was also on scene. He said, “I really don’t know what the intention was, whether [the driver was] trying to take the offramp and missed it or whether they were possibly impaired. We’re investigating that.”
Westbound lanes of 3500 South were closed at the 215 overpass for several hours.
Crews have yet to identify the deceased.
Video from UDOT showed responders on scene including firetrucks and ambulances this afternoon.
