Trump names Sen. Hatch's chief of staff as senior aide

(KUTV) — President-elect Donald Trump has named Utah Senator Orrin Hatch's chief of staff as the White House Secretary Assistant to the President.

Hatch released a statement regarding Rob Porter's new position that said "While [Trump's] selection is a loss for me personally, it is an enormous gain for the incoming president and the nation."

Porter has led Hatch’s Washington- and Utah-based staff for nearly three years.

In Porter's absence, Hatch promoted Senior Counsel Matthew Sandgren to Chief of Staff and Deputy Legislative Director John Tanner to Legislative Director.
