KUTV — Two Ogden families were selected to a part of the HGTV's series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
In conjunction with Ogden's Wadman Corporation and several small firms, the TV series has already started construction on both of the homes.
The first family announced was the Barobi family. A press release from the show said the host, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, knocked on the family's front door to surprise them with the news they had been selected. The Barobi family is a refugee family from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Untraditional to the show's norms, the Barobi family does not have a permanent residence that can be used during the demolition aspect of the show. Ogden City has donated a vacant lot that the new home will be built on. The press released added, "this home will help them to be able to continue to reach their dreams in America."
President of the Wadman Corporation, Dave Hogan, had this to say about the Barobi family:
What the Barobi family has endured in unthinkable. We are completely honored to be able to help provide a home for this incredible family. We want to thank, in advance, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, all of our business partners, subcontractors, community partners and individual volunteers for making an undertaking like this possible.
Wadman Corporation announced on Sunday the Mayo family would be the second family to be featured on the show. Additionally, they asked the public to help gather volunteers to help with the home.
Hogan also added this statement:
Wadman Corporation has a strong history of community involvement, although it is typically without the public being made aware. The reality is, that we are going to need strong community help to complete two projects of this magnitude; building one home in a week is a huge undertaking but building two homes is an awesome task and we wanted to let the public know because we will definitely need their support
The two homes are planned to be built in under 11 days. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" will feature the Ogden families when the season premieres in 2020.
