SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A University of Utah player killed in an overnight shooting in Salt Lake City had a special connection to another player also killed by gunfire.
2News received several reports that the victim in a deadly shooting at a house party early Sunday morning was University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe.
The 21-year-old was in his third season playing for Utah and was the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship. He was a defensive cornerback with the Utes and played on special teams.
The award was created in honor of former Utah player Ty Jordan who was killed after an accidental shooting in December 2020.
A celebration of life for Jordan was held in Texas on Jan. 6, 2021.
Both Lowe and Jordan were from Mesquite, Texas, and played together in high school.
The two had been described as best friends.
After Jordan's passing, Lowe switched his jersey from No. 2 to No. 22 in honor of his fallen teammate.
Police are still currently investigating the shooting that left the star football player dead and another person injured.
