As the federal government shutdown continues, the University of Utah's art organizations are offering furloughed federal employees free access to the arts on campus during the shutdown.

The U of U announced Friday that its art entities are offering free access to federal employees affected by the government shutdown during its duration.

“As a community of artists, we recognize and appreciate our important role in supporting our communities and meeting them where they are,” stated John W. Scheib, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for the Arts at the U and Dean of the College of Fine Arts. “We hope that in our theatres, halls and galleries, our proud friends can experience the joy and creativity the arts can so uniquely and powerfully provide.”

Below are the ways federal employees can enjoy the arts for free:

    Pioneer Theatre Company

The Pioneer Theatre Company is offering affected federal employees two free tickets to the remaining performances of their current production, The Lion in Winter.

To receive the tickets, call 801-581-6961 or visit the box office, which is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To learn more about the show, visit www.pioneertheatrecompany.org.

Employees who present their federal ID or paystub at the box office can get their tickets. The theatre company stated the quantity is limited, so tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis.

The School of Music and the School of Dance is offering four tickets to any upcoming performance during the shutdown.

See the list of shows at tickets.utah.edu, then call 801-581-7100 or visit the Kingsbury Hall box office, and present a proof of employment to receive your tickets.
