The University of Utah, already a boss-level contender in the serious business of video games, has now earned the high score among public schools.

The top public-school ranking goes along with a number five ranking among all schools, public or private. The high score is courtesy of Animation Career Review, released March 3 for the Entertainment Arts & Engineering program, under the university's College of Engineering.

The survey evaluates each of the 149 programs in the survey by academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program faculty, value related to tuition and indebtedness, graduation rate, location and employment data. The ranking is the site's 10 annual look at schools. It was was slot lower in both categories, representing a level up in the latest report.

“This is a remarkable ranking,” EAE Director Michael Young said. "I couldn't be more thrilled."

The Princeton Review also gave the University of Utah program high marks, slotting it second for private schools and fifth overall.

According to a press release from the university:

Entertainment Arts and Engineering launched in 2007 and quickly became one of the most highly regarded video game development programs in the world.

Students can earn a Bachelor of Science is Games, a Minor in Games, a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Entertainment Arts and Engineering emphasis and a Master's of Entertainment Arts & Engineering. The university also offers a unique dual MBA with MEAE degree. It says it gives students business skills to start or run game-centric companies.
