(KUTV) -- Just when you thought construction along Bangerter Highway was complete, the Utah Department of Transportation announced Monday morning it has three new projects on the horizon.
Those three new interchanges will start with the 6200 South interchange in 2019.
Two additional interchanges will then be built at 10400 and 12600 South in 2020.
UDOT completed construction on four interchanges Monday with all lanes and ramps open at 5400 South, 7000 South, 9000 South and 11400 South.
UDOT tells 2news the project to build these four interchanges is part of its ongoing effort to improve traffic on Bangerter Highway and to meet the growing transportation needs of western Salt Lake City.
The goal is transform the highway into a freeway, UDOT said.
Occasional short-term lane closures are expected during non-commute hours for the next several weeks as crews work to complete smaller details.
