(KUTV) -- Frontrunner service past Ogden will no longer be offered as of August 12th.

Utah Transit Authority is suspending the program due to low ridership and new federal guidelines.

"Because of federal guidelines and federal requirements, positive train control has to be installed by the end of this calendar year," said Carl Arky, UTA spokesman. "It's going to take because of a lot of reasons approximately $1.5 million - maybe as much as $1.7 million - to implement positive train control between Ogden and Pleasant View. And when you look at ridership, this does not pencil out. "

Positive train control slows down and stops a train when traveling too fast. It prevents major accidents from occurring.

In the meantime, UTA says it is working on providing alternate transportation from Pleasant View to Ogden.

The transit authority added that it may reinstate the service in the future.
