(KUTV) An Alpine-based company is creating a niche for themselves in the mattress market – all with the help of some viral videos.

Purple, Inc, a local mattress company, recently broke a Kickstarter record in Utah for their new comfy pillow. In a short amount of time, the pillow raised more than $2.6 million dollars from 17,733 backers.

The company has been growing, in just eight months they went from about 30 employees to more than 300 people working for the Utah company.

But what’s jump starting a mattress company?

To help raise awareness about their mattress technology, Purple created a Goldilocks-themed video that went viral online – featuring a woman dressed as Goldilocks testing out the typical hard and soft beds with the ‘raw egg’ test, before finding her perfect ‘just right’ bed.

2News checked out the local mattress company, which is based in Alpine but in the middle of building a new factory in Tooele County.

Purple actually makes their comfort technology right in Utah. The company has built their own equipment designed to manufacture the pillows and mattresses, before they ship out to anywhere in the country.

CEO Sam Bernards says the mattress and pillow are popular because the focus is your comfort.

“When a hard part of your body pushes into the purple part, the columns buckle. And so it creates a little mesh that supports your body,” Bernards explained.

The company sells 3 sizes in the United States – King, Queen and Twin mattresses.

Right now Purple sells exclusively online but they’re getting ready to expand to national retail stores.
