A Utah man is facing a third degree homicide by assault charge after allegedly punching a man so hard he died, according to court documents.

Ross Alan Letham, 31, was staying at the Intown Suites in Woods Cross on March 5.

He came out of his room because another person was talking on the phone outside his room.

Letham didn't like the noise and punched the man in the face, court documents say. This knocked the victim onto the ground, and he never regained consciousness.

The man later died at the hospital, as a result of the punch.

Letham fled the scene before police arrived, but witnesses identified him.

This is not Letham's first offense. Court documents state he was under felony probation until it was terminated early in 2018. One month later in October 2018, Letham was arrested and charged for felony evasion, reckless endangerment and DUI.

The homicide offense was committed while on bail for a pending felony charge.

Letham is being held in the Davis County Jail.
