SALT LAKE CITY — (KUTV) – Air quality forecasts show Utah’s air quality will likely dip Wednesday and an inversion will be here before the end of the week.
“Now is the time to act!” Utah Department of Environmental Quality spokesperson Donna Kemp Spangler told 2News. “If you can carpool or take transit, this would be the time to do it because that is going to prevent the air quality from getting worse.”
DEQ has already issued mandatory action days for Wednesday and Thursday.
The Division of Air Quality posts daily reports and a forecast of air conditions on its website.
“Pay attention to what the air quality is,” Dr. Robert Paine, a pulmonary physician at the University of Utah said. “When we have a period of poor air quality and you are alerted that it’s a red air day, something like that, that’s a good time to avoid exercise outside.”
Paine says people with chronic lung conditions should make sure to take their regular medication and seek attention if they feel adverse effects from the inversion. Indoor air quality can be better than outdoor air if filters are used in a buildings ventilation.
“The answer is to get out of the bad air,” Paine said.
