(KUTV) — Orem police released body camera footage Friday of officers rescuing a suspected DUI driver, who was seriously injured in a fiery crash, in Orem.
Provo police attempted to stop 25-year-old Dustin Scott Butterfield, of Salt Lake City, around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday after a 911 caller said he appeared to be driving impaired.
He fled from officers. Police terminated their pursuit, but sent an alert out to other agencies to be on the lookout for his vehicle.
A short time later, in Orem, Butterfield crashed into a FedEx truck and took off, Cannon stated. A witness called 911 and followed the vehicle to Vineyard, where a deputy witnessed the car drive past a stopped school bus that had its lights flashing while children boarded.
Butterfield again fled when the deputy attempted to pull him over, Cannon stated. He drove east on Center Street and ran a red light, continuing up an overpass where his vehicle "left the roadway" and crashed at the bottom of an embankment, bursting into flames.
Video released from Orem police shows officers and sheriff’s deputies pulling Butterfield from the burning car.
He was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and faces several charges.
