WEBER COUNTY (KUTV) — A semi-truck driver hauling Shasta soda escaped after his trailer caught fire Saturday afternoon in Weber County.
It happened at approximately 1:00 p.m. Saturday near the W. 2700 North exit in Farr West.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Lawrence Hopper, the driver didn't realize his trailer's emergency brakes were on, which caused the blaze.
Hopper says an axle caught fire after the emergency brakes got hot.
The driver safely pulled over to the shoulder.
A 2News viewer, who did not want to be identified, captured videos of the fire, which got so hot that the tires exploded.
The debris hit the driver who had to be taken to the hospital with a possible broken leg.
