A Utah man is facing a list of charges after he allegedly got into a fight with a Saratoga Springs police officer... while wearing only a "man thong," according to the probable cause statement obtained by KUTV.

Police were dispatched after a call came in Monday night about a male in a "man thong walking down the middle of the road with a sign around his neck," the court documents state.

The person who initially called dispatchers said the man had jumped out in front of their car, and they nearly hit him.

An officer was able to track the man, later identified as 27-year-old Wesley Alexander Sayer, to the parking lot of Eagle Park in Saratoga Springs.

Police asked the man his name, to which he responded "Ryan."

According to the PC statement, the officer asked Sayre to turn around so he could place handcuffs on him "for safety purposes." The officer was not arresting Sayer at that moment.

The officer claims that's then Sayer took off running, still wearing just a thong. The officer chased him down and tackled him causing a fight to break out.

Police say Sayer was throwing punches, hitting the officer's vest, knocking off the officer's body camera.

Both stood up from the fighting and the officer warned Sayer that he would deploy his Taser if he didn't stop fighting.

Police say Sayer ran, and that's when police successfully deployed a Taser.

The officer was able to put handcuffs on Sayer, who then talked to police once things were under control.

The arresting officer writes in the probable cause statement:

I began speaking with him. He was very emotional and began crying saying he was a 12-year-old boy who didn't want to hurt anyone. While he was speaking I could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. I asked him how much he had drank, which he stated when he drinks to much his mind goes.

Police still did not know Sayer's identity until his girlfriend arrived on the scene, telling police her boyfriend had left her house. She gave police the correct name of Wesley Sayer.

Sayer was taken to the hospital for evaluation before being taken to the Utah County Jail.

Sayer faces the following charges:

  • Interference with arresting officer, a class B misdemeanor
  • Assault on a peace officer, a class A misdemeanor
  • Fail to stop at command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor
  • Intoxication, a class C misdemeanor

It's unclear why Sayer was wearing only a "man thong," or what the sign he had around his neck said.
