MURRAY, Utah (KUTV) — Weezer, a Los Angeles-based rock band, responded to a Utah native's billboard that he used to shoutout the group in an interaction that's received thousands of views online.
Cory Winn, CEO and founder of Lucca International from Utah, purchased a billboard in June. Weezer responded with their own billboard nearby on Friday.
Winn claimed on Instagram that he had the best billboard in the US, which is located in Murray above Fat Boy Phillies.
He chose to write "Weezer" as the message on the purchased billboard, which had been up for about four months.
On Friday, Winn appeared in a TikTok video comparing "how it started" and "how its going."
They saw that someone had bought a billboard that said, "Thanks to whoever bought the billboard down the road." When Winn posted a video pointing out the new billboard to his social media pages, he was unaware of the owner at the time.
Weezer responded to the TikTok video Friday, by posting a caption that read, "We’re sending out a signal. Waiting on a callback from you," and tagged Winn and his clothing brand.
At that moment, Winn realized it was Weezer who bought the billboard and the appreciation messages continued to flow in.
The official Twitter account for Salt Lake City participated in the memes by editing their own billboards and even incorporating a Weezer song lyric.
