West Jordan teenager arrested after posting threatening Instagram selfie with gun
(KUTV) - A teenage boy was arrested Tuesday evening after a threatening Instagram post was reported by another child to West Jordan Police.
The post was a selfie of the teen brandishing a handgun.
Someone asked him in the comments if he was going to shoot up a school.
The boy replied affirmatively and tagged Joel P. Jensen Middle School in West Jordan as his target.
The teen did use some emojis indicating it may be a joke, but police cannot assume that anymore, according to Sergeant J.C. Holt with the West Jordan Police Department.
Police identified the teen and arrested him at his home around 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night.
The boy is not a current student at the school but has either attended in the past or has ties to the school. Police are unsure at this time.
Police aren't yet sure if the gun is real or who it belongs to. Their investigation is ongoing.
Police don't believe there is an active threat against Joel P. Jensen Middle School but will do extra patrols as a precaution.
